Real Heroes and Heroines

As this Memorial Day comes to a close with all of its busy activites, I wanted to take a moment to leave the world of fiction and its beloved story, which gives us so much, to write about those that give us even more--the men and women who serve our country within and without.

No matter what your political veiw, have the courage and the maturity to take your greviences to the government and give honor and glory to those upon which it is due.

The men and women who serve our country are the true heroes and heroines in life. They take the ideas of sacrifice, honor, freedom, courage, liberty, duty, and love beyond mere words on a page and live it every second of their lives with every fiber of their being.

No words can convey the gratitude we Americans should hold within the depths of our hearts for what these men and women do for our country; they give so that we live in the comforts and freedoms we do.
And no empathy or sorrow can cover the grievious loss of any one of them as they battle evils we here in so cushioned a life can barely fathom.
To pray for, respect, and thank them seems so little for so much, and yet those few honors are rarely placed at the feet of these men and women.

May God and all of everything he is be with you and your families, for you are the real heroes and heroines in life, and I know of no greater heartfelt wish to offer.
Thank You
Jennifer St. Giles
To Pam, Joel, Cristine, and JB Vanardo and their family, God be with you in your grief as we all remember Danny Varnardo and his service to his country and the selfless price he paid. May God Bless him and hold him in His arms forever.

Bewitched, Bothered, and Bevampyred

Tonight is a fun post, because given the lateness of the hour, almost 3AM, even my muse is punchy.
What if you took twenty crazy authors, asked them to go wild, and told them they could break any rule they wanted in a place that defies magical imagination?
Well, someone did and Brokenoggin Falls morphed into a place where anything can, and quite frankly, does happen. You want top notch authors unloosed? You got them. You want vampires, wizards, werewolves, and all manner of hunky men with unimaginable goods. You got them. You want heroines that not only play with the big boys, but come out on top, too. You've got them. And when you get that many fun loving authors together, you get something else: a very big heart. All proceeds from this book go to the Internaitonal Red Cros to aid in disaster relief, such as the Tsunami in December 04. So enjoy the sexy and almost too hot to handle sometimes fun. Go to www.triskelionpublishing.com/prod100.html and see what Bewitched, Bothered, and Bevampyred has to offer you.

Did you miss something great?

Don't worry. People's Magazine did, too. But its not too late! And Brianna from Indiana let them know just that. You can read her letter in the mail-bag of the May 30th issue. So you ask, What did they miss? What did you miss?
I'll tell you shortly. First I have something else on my mind.
It's not quite midnight and I'm already here. Sometimes miracles do happen. Just like sometimes all of the cosmic energy and creative juices of the universe flows together and something great is made. That happened this past year in one particular film. The Phantom of the Opera The Movie. This film has it all, dark hero(Gerard Butler), light hero(Patrick Wilson), beautiful heroine(Emmy Rossom) romance, danger, emotion so deep you couldn't face it without embracing it. AND, it is the sexiest, most seductive movie I have ever seen and I write romance! But as I told someone who questioned my statement, you don't have to be overstated to be well-stated. So I encourage all of those who haven't seen it to buy the DVD and watch it. Trust me. You'll want to own it.
Now you may ask, why would I spend my precious time singing the praises of something that I didn't write. Because I think all great things need to be recognized and so often in todays world are missed. The Phantom of the Opera is a beautiful and unique love story that I'll save the dynamics of for another post. And one of the things that made it great was the one person People's Magazine missed in their Fifty Most Beautiful Issue.
They missed the Phantom, Gerard Butler. How any woman can listen to Music of the Night and not see the beauty of the phantom and the man is beyond me. And Brianna let People's Magazine know. So Kudos to you Brianna. And congrats at seeing something you wrote in print. It's a very cool feeling that never goes away.
I want to also mention that People's Magazine also missed Gerard's costars, Patrick and Emmy. Their beauty, talent, and performance was incomporable.
But it's not too late!
Enjoy

For want of a nail

For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe the horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the battle was lost. For want of a battle the kingdom was lost. And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

Tonight as I sit here, trying to pull the threads of a story together while so many of the loose threads in my life wiggle wildly around me like snakes hunting for prey (Picture Indiana Jones in that snake pit and you'll have a clear picture of the glamorous life most writers live) I wonder two things about this centuries old nursery rhyme.

First, how many nails are being missed in our daily lives. Those tiny little bits that hold things together and can be so easily overlooked. Perhaps it's good to remind ourselves every so often that little details do matter in the big scheme of things.

Second, you do matter!
So often I talk to people, many times young people, who feel as if they have no importance because they aren't out there making miracles happen. Or pehaps it isn't something as dramatic as that. Perhaps its doing everything you can and still not making the A list. Perhaps you're caught in an endless litany of cooking, cleaning, and washing. Perhaps you've no wish to be the next president and what you really want out of life is just cutting that board and nailing up that 2x4. Perhaps it's reading that book and sharing it with a friend. Or more importantly it's sharing a part of the one and only you with someone else. Whatever it is, I hope you realize that if it wasn't for all of these tiny nails holding the shoe of life together, all of life would be lost!
Believe in yourself!

Feel free to add your thoughts about the little things.
Tomorrow, I've a neat little story to tell you about a Phantom, and an Fan.
Good night

All around the world.

Tonight, I am just musing over how much we have in common with people all over the world now that we have mavels like computers, the internet, satellites, and all those little things that we share with so many around the world. And as a writer, I am discovering another thing to add to this list of things growing the world into a community. Romance. Everywhere I go, I meet people who love romance! Love, no matter what the language, captures the heart and shares it with everyone. If you happen upon my site, don't be shy. Say hello! And tell me why you love romance!

Movies and Nightime

Recently, despite the crazy deadlines that I have had, I watched two movies. Well, actually I saw one movie, The Phantom of the Opera for the fourth time and saw Bridget Jones Diary Part Two for the first time and somehow, even though I have a multitude of characters already running through my head as I work on three different books in different stages of production, I find myself, reliving moments of the movies. Almost as if I'd lived them as that character and had really experienced exactly what that character had. Their memory seems to be mine. No it is not my Gerard Butler obsession taking over and LOL, I am not crazy or delusional, but as I'm sitting here revising scenes in a book, I decided that a mark of a great story, or the talent of a good actor or writer is the ability to enable the watcher or the reader to believe they are that character and they don't want to stop being that character when the movie or the book is over. The reader or the watcher wants that story reality to continue. This isn't a eureka revelation, just a musing over why somethings get stuck in our heads.
Well, I'm back to my current manuscript, to try and weave some of that, I don't want it to end magic into my story.
I'll be back for more soon

Welcome

May 17, 2005
We know ourselves best in the quiet of the night when we are alone with our thoughts. So I thought Midnight Muse the perfect title for sharing bits of myself with all of you. It is during the night that I often find to time to write and get my best writing done. I invite you to grab a hot or relaxing drink, put your feet up, and enjoy. The music of the night can often be heard in the soft words and tender touches we as humans can share with each other. So join me during the night, and join me in saying what some special friends of mine say: believe, achieve, imagine, and inspire!
I'll return soon,
